What Can Economics Contribute to Public Policy? Lessons from Developing Countries
Recent research in development economics has shed new light on questions of optimal policy design by combining economic theory with practical field work and causal empirical methods. The lecture discusses some of the lessons learned with examples from the areas of public finance and microfinance.
Dina Pomeranz is an assistant professor in the Department of Economics. Prior to joining the University of Zurich, she was an assistant professor at the Harvard Business School and a postdoctoral fellow at MIT's Poverty Action Lab. She has a PhD in economics from Harvard and undergraduate and masters degrees in international relations and international economics from the Graduate Institute of International Relations in Geneva.
The inaugural lecture is public and will take place as part of the science festival "100 Ways of Thinking" University of Zurich at Kunsthalle Zurich (Löwenbräu-Areal, Kunsthalle Zürich, Limmatstrasse 270, Zürich Google-Maps ) on Tuesday, September 25, 2018, at 4 pm. No reservation is needed.
