Rethinking trade policy

After decades of trade liberalization, tariffs have reached historically low levels so that there is little scope for further tariff cuts. As a result, modern trade agreements now largely revolve around non-tariff issues in an attempt to achieve further economic integration elsewhere. In his inaugural lecture, Ralph Ossa will explain why we need to rethink trade policy in light of these developments.

Ralph Ossa is Professor of Economics of Globalization and Emerging Markets at the University of Zurich. He has conducted research in both these areas with a particular emphasis on questions of policy relevance. For example, he has explored the economics of trade wars and trade talks and estimated how much countries gain from international trade. Prior to moving to Zurich, he served on the faculty of the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. He holds a PhD in Economics from the London School of Economics.

The inaugural lecture is public and will take place in the Aula of the University of Zurich (KOL G-201, Raemistrasse 71, 8006 Zurich) on Monday, November 26, 2018, at 5:00 pm. No reservation is needed.
