You are warmly invited to the inaugural lecture of PD Dr. Martin Grossmann:
Dynamic Contests and Outside Options
Patent races, political elections, promotional competitions, sports competitions and wars are examples of contests. Martin Grossmann discusses in his inaugural lecture to what extent outside options change the participation of potential competitors in contests. It is taken into account that the value of the outside option is typically different between contestants. Outside options have an influence on the participants' quality, but also on their incentives in the contest. He also discusses the dynamic effect of liquidity constraints on the development of contestants' strength in contests.
Martin Grossmann is a senior researcher at the Chair for Services & Operations Management at the University of Zurich. He studied Economics and wrote his doctoral thesis and habilitation on topics in contest theory, management compensation and sports economics at the University of Zurich.
